Make a cute Easter Egg treat holder right in your hoop! Whether you want to give candy or cash for Easter, these adorable treat holders are so easy to make using Bonnie’s Eggsquisite Jewels set.

I chose design 1, and did a little bit of editing to it. Because this project is created in the freestanding applique technique, using Eggsquisite Jewels was ideal even though I did not applique fabric or GlitterFlex

Using design editing software I eliminated the gold flourishes and blue dots outside of the egg. That way, the satin-stitch edging would keep the freestanding applique intact.

Creating a Freestanding Applique Treat Holder

Start by hooping a fabric-type water-soluble stabilizer. Stitch the first color stop, the placement stitch for the egg. Secure the front fabric over the placement stitches in the hoop.

Remove the hoop from the machine. Tape a piece of thin felt or batting to the back of the hoop, covering the placement stitch.

Reattach the hoop and stitch color 2, the tack-down stitch. This will attach the front fabric to the felt. Skip color 4.

Continue stitching colors. When you get to color 8, which is the outside satin stitches, only stitch the small heart inside the larger heart and stop before the outside satin stitches begin. Finish with color 9.

Remove the hoop from the machine. Trim the fabric on the front to the tack-down stitch.

Also, trim the felt to tack down stitch on the back.

Tape backing fabric on the back of the hoop, right side up over the egg, and place a folded piece of fabric over the lower half of the egg for a pocket.

Place the hoop back on the machine and run color 2, the tack-down stitch, again to secure the backing fabric and pocket to the egg.

Remove the hoop and trim the backing fabric and pocket to the tack-down stitching.

Place the hoop back on the machine and select color 8, the outside satin stitching. Advance stitching past the small heart inside the larger heart, until you get to stitches on the outside edge of the egg. Start your machine to finish satin stitching the outside edge of the egg.

When finished, remove everything from the hoop and trim away stabilizer close to stitching. Wet the edges to eliminate WSS and let it dry. Fill the pocket with candy or cash!

Apologies for the delay - this was a Murphy's Law project. You may have also noticed my design registration is off. It is user malfunction, not a problem with Bonnie's designs!
