This heart is so pretty, combining beautiful edge stitching with the sparkling depth of GlitterFlex. I decided to stitch it on a piece of Valentine fabric and pop it into a decorative frame. You can download the free design now and make a work of heart!

Of course, Ultra Red GlitterFlex is the perfect choice for a Valentine and Bonnie’s sample photographed so much better than mine.
I chose a pink fabric printed with the word Love, and decided to center one of the words above the heart. I hooped stabilizer and marked center crosshairs. Running a basting stitch on the stabilizer made it so that I could position the fabric where I wanted.
This is where a light table, or even a window, helps. I marked the center of the word Love and aligned it along the center vertical crosshair so that it was above the basting box on the stabilizer. The basting box also helps to keep the fabric positioned straight in the hoop.
A glue stick helps hold fabric in place until it can be basted in the hoop. Applique is pretty straightforward. The first color stitches a heart shape on the fabric.
That shows you the size of GlitterFlex to cut (I chose Hot Pink GlitterFlex Ultra to match colors in my fabric) and where it should be placed.
After stitching the second color to tack down the GlitterFlex, it is torn away or trimmed close to the stitch line. After it is fused in place, the decorative outer edge is stitched before satin stitching and the finishing accent stitching over the satin stitches.
I removed basting stitches and stabilizer before ironing and inserting it into a decorative frame. It is so much prettier than it photographed. It is a great design to try out the applique technique and just how wonderful GlitterFlex makes your embroidery!

the print fabric you have as a background looks exactly like the Purely Gates embroidery alphabet. are they developing a line of fabric as well?
