Self-improvement comes in many forms. Why not resolve to learn a new embroidery technique?
Resolutions don’t have to be all about weight loss and exercise. Not that they aren’t good resolutions to make. You can also decide to learn something new this year!
Try Heirloom Techniques
Stitch a beautiful Wing Needle Butterfly. It’s not difficult at all. Just follow Bonnie’s instructions and switch out your standard embroidery needle for a wing needle when directed. Learn more about wing needles here and see a kitchen boa tutorial here.
Create an In-the-hoop Project
One of the many wonders of machine embroidery is that it makes creating ITH projects so much fun. If you have never tried one, this is the year!
Hoop ‘n Sew Twitter Pages is a great project you can make completely in the hoop. Really, the only thing you have to do is add a snap. See how cork is used to make a cute notebook cover in this tutorial, and how vinyl stitches up here.
Or, stitch up a lovely Needle Keeper, complete with clear vinyl pockets. Check out a tutorial here.
Use GlitterFlex
If you like traditional applique, there is nothing like using GlitterFlex instead of fabric or along with fabrics in your appliques.
The sparkle is unmatched and the effect is breathtaking. It trims easier than fabric, launders well, and fuses beautifully.
GlitterFlex singles and special bundles created specifically for different themes and design packs. There are more than 60 colors from which to choose.
Make a Quilt
Make this the year that you make your first quilt. Bonnie shows you how she made an adorable Jungle Buddies wonky block quilt in this tutorial.
What will you resolve to do this year?

Annette, your gifts will certainly become treasured heirlooms. How wonderful for your grands (and it is so much fun, too!).

I am 75. I set a goal each year for learning something new. Christmas I gave 2 granddaughters zip pouches with their name and interests..basketball, volleyball etc. sewn on with patches I made. The 3 year old got a jacket with created patches. They all loved them!
This year when cork goes on sale I will make your adorable twitter pages! I have already purchased your design. Thanks for all your tips! The heirloom looks like fun, also.
