Bonnie’s Santa Buddies ornament project turned out so cute that I decided to create another one using Ginger Buddies. You can use many designs to create ornaments this way but may need to tweak it a bit to make it work. I’ll show you how!
I used Ginger Buddies 10 and stitched it on felt just like the Santa Buddies ornament. The Santa head ornament didn’t need much fussing when it came to editing the design because the beard and hat had distinctive edge stitches.
Ginger Buddies 10 uses a full body applique of GlitterFlex. I used editing software to eliminate everything from the smile down.
That left a jump stitch between both bottom edges of the head. The problem was determining where the GlitterFlex should be trimmed along the bottom edge.
Opening the design with Embrilliance Enthusiast, I could go through the design color by color. The brown bottom edging included stitches that followed, and would be hidden by, the stitched smile.
I stitched the design placement and tackdown (you can see how the ornament technique was done here). Before trimming the GlitterFlex, I advanced my embroidery machine to the dark brown shadow on the lower part of the Ginger Buddies head. I further advanced to the first stitch that forms the lower edge of the smile and bridges both dark shadow areas.
By stitching just the lower part of the smile joining both dark brown shadow edges, that gives me the trimming edge that I was missing. Trim around the GlitterFlex and fuse it in place.
Continue stitching. When finished, trim the ornament around stitching, including a felt back. Glue together adding a hanger and you have another adorable ornament.
Here’s hoping you all had a very merry Christmas!

Bonnie—yes on this particular design you would need some type of editing software since the whole body was digitized as one piece. =)

So it does require software to separate head from body?
