I’ll show you how to create an adorable Christmas ornament using Bonnie’s Santa Buddies!
Bonnie’s Santa Buddies are the epitome of Christmas and are perfect for a variety of holiday projects. I chose Santa 2 and made an ornament stitched on felt with just it’s head.
Start by opening the design in Embrilliance software (you can use most design editing software) and eliminate everything from the beard down. Save the design using a different name, so that it doesn’t copy over the original file, and hoop two layers of water-soluble fabric-type stabilizer.
Add a basting box to hold a piece of wool felt to the stabilizer. Mine was not felted and had a smooth, flat surface. I used a green felt to blend in with the tree (you'll see later). I still added a heat-away topper (with another basting box) but not until after, I tacked and fused the GlitterFlex hat.
In retrospect, I should have re-stitched the hat tackdown on the topper and should have torn the topper inside the hat tackdown stitches away before continuing embroidery. The heat-away topper was a bit difficult to remove within the small accent stitches of the hat.
Finish embroidery, then remove the topper and basting stitches.
Cut another piece of felt for a backing. Trim around the stitching through both layers of the embroidered Santa and backing. Glue layers together, adding a hanger loop, and let dry with a weight on top to keep layers flat.
When dry, it’s ready to hang! Notice how the dark green felt just blends in with the background of the tree? That way your eyes are more focused on the face and not the felt.
Wishing you successful stitching this last week before Christmas.
